Saanichton, BC
Location: At the southern tip of Vancouver Island, bordering on the north side of British Columbia's capital, Victoria.
Travel Time: From Vancouver, it is a half hour drive by car to the Tsawwassen ferry terminal, an 95-minute ferry ride and another 20 minutes drive on Highway 17 from the Swartz Bay ferry terminal on Vancouver Island. Commuter planes fly between Vancouver and Victoria airports in about 20 minutes, leaving another 15 minute drive to Saanich.
Climate: Same as Vancouver though somewhat drier.
Economy: Saanich is a mix of suburban residential and rural agricultural communities. Saanich residents for the most part work in Victoria, where the major employers are government and tourism. This leaves Saanich a predominantly suburban residential community with a small light industrial component and an agricultural sector.
To do: Being so close to Victoria, all the attractions of the Victoria area are within easy reach from Saanich. Ocean beaches are closeby. Major attractions and recreation activities are detailed in other sections of the information package.
